Why?
I don’t think this is an original observation, but the web has become a lot worse in the past 10-15 years. I have been online in a meaningful way since 2000, and was very happy with how things were going for a while. I use(d) and liked Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Reddit, Twitter, Google search, Gmail, etc. for a while. Now the only one of those that I don’t dislike using is Gmail (and now even that has been brought into question with generative AI training.)
How?
These services are popular for a reason, ‘everyone’ uses them and they are simple to use. Setting up your own blog is a lot of work and sharing photos is futile if the only place people go to check for new photos is instagram. I want to create independent systems so that others can use them, but will likely continue using Meta/Google for the time being.
Plans for the future
- Post monthly-ish
- Share photos for family and friends
- Integrate more with the indie-web at some point. Maybe when it gets a bit simpler 😅
